Reiki Energy Therapy

What Reiki Is~

Reiki (ray-key) is the universal life force, or energy, which permeates everything.  It exists all around us and can be channeled by Reiki Practitioners for the healing and highest good of their clients, both animal and human.

It is a non-invasive complementary or alternative type of energy therapy that promotes and supports the body’s own healing abilities by strengthening and balancing the flow of its energy systems.  It can be used in addition to that of a licensed veterinarian’s or physician’s care and more often than not, will help to speed and facilitate healing on whatever level it is needed.

Reiki, along with Therapeutic and Healing Touch, is one of the most commonly used energy healing modalities being incorporated into integrative and holistic medical programs today in both hospitals and veterinary practices across the country and around the world!

What Reiki is not~

Reiki is spiritual in nature but it is not a religion!  It does not require belief in its’ efficacy or precepts, only a willingness and a desire to participate in one’s own healing journey. Reiki is also not a substitution for medical care by a licensed veterinarian or physician and should never be considered as a “cure all”.

Last, but not least, Reiki always works for the highest good, whatever that may be and will never do harm in any way!

The History of Reiki~

Reiki energy was re-discovered in Japan in the early 1900’s by Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of modern, traditional Reiki in Japan.  The ability to channel Reiki has been passed down from Reiki Master to student by attunement in a lineage that can be traced back to Dr. Usui since that time.

Reiki has become a staple of holistic healing around the world thanks to Mrs. Hawayo Takata and Dr. Chujiro Hayashi who first brought Reiki from Japan to Hawaii in 1937.  Mrs. Takata began training others to the Master Level in 1970 and Reiki has  spread rapidly ever since.

As with all things that become wide-spread, Reiki has undergone many additions in modern times and quite a few new and different systems have evolved as a result.  Research carried out in Japan by Reiki Master Frank Ajava-Petter in recent years, has uncovered a vast amount of information concerning Dr. Usui and his original treatment techniques and the addition of this and his original notes on Reiki have enriched the practice of Reiki everywhere.  It has also helped to bring traditional Reiki back to its’ roots and essence.

The bottom line in all of this is that whatever system of Reiki is practiced, the ability to channel Reiki and to pass that ability on, must be received from a Reiki Master Teacher through attunement to the frequency of the energy.  Anyone receiving a Reiki treatment should be within their rights to ask for their practitioner’s lineage which should go back to the source, Dr. Usui.
